Female luteal phase -16-112nmol/L. Female follicular phase – < 16nmol/L. Male and post menopause- < 2nmol/L.Less than 1ng/ml in the preovulatory phase. At the time of LH surge serum progesterone levels begin to rise and 4 to 6 days later reach a peak of about 10-20ng/ml.After remaining stable for one week progesterone concentrations drop rapidly to about 1 ng/ml a short time before the onset of menstruation.
