Xipamide

Diuretics

Description

Xipamide is an active substance from the group of thiazide-like diuretics with diuretic and blood pressure-lowering properties. It is used for the treatment of high blood pressure and water retentions in the body (edema) and is administered orally in the form of tablets.

Mechanism of action

The primary site of action of Xipamide is the distal convoluted tubule. At this site, the inhibition of NaCl transport is caused, leading to diuresis. Xipamide inhibits the Na+Cl- symport, perhaps by competing for the Cl- binding site.
