Vasopressin

Hormones & fertility agents

Description

A hormone that helps blood vessels constrict and helps the kidneys control the amount of water and salt in the body. This helps control blood pressure and the amount of urine that is made.

Mechanism of action

Vasopressin mimics the effect of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) on the receptors of the renal tubule. Antidiuretic hormone permits reabsorption of water in the renal tubule. Without ADH, more diluted urine is excreted.
