Trimipramine

Anti depressants

Description

Trimipramine is used to treat depression. It belongs to the group of medicines known as tricyclic antidepressants (TCA). These medicines are thought to work by increasing the activity of certain chemicals in the brain.

Mechanism of action

Trimipramine’s mechanism of action differs from other tricyclic antidepressants. Trimipramine acts by decreasing the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin (5-HT). The presence of this polymorphism in CYP2D6 is associated with poor metabolism of trimipramine.
