Tenoxicam

Anti pyretics & analgesic

Description

It is a heteroaryl hydroxy compound, a monocarboxylic acid amide, a member of pyridines and a thienothiazine. Tenoxicam, an antiinflammatory agent with analgesic and antipyretic properties, is used to treat osteoarthritis and control acute pain.

Mechanism of action

Tenoxicam exert their action by inhibiting the biosynthesis and release of prostaglandins. These drugs inhibit cyclooxygenase enzyme and hence prostaglandin synthesis. These compounds generally do not inhibit formation of leukotrienes which also contribute to inflammation.
