Sodium Cromoglycate

Anti asthmatic

Description

Sodium cromoglycate is a widely used drug for the prevention of allergic diseases, especially in bronchial asthma and allergic rhinitis. It inhibits mastocyte degranulation and has a direct effect on inflammatory cells and the bronchial obstructive reflex.

Mechanism of action

Precise mechanism of action is uncertain. It has several properties like phosphodiesterase inhibition, reduction of alpha-adrenoreceptor density, inhibition of IgE-dependant mediator secretion by cell types other than mast cells, which have been proposed to account for its activity in asthma inhibition.
