Prazosin

Description

Prazosin is a medication used to manage and treat hypertension, benign prostatic hyperplasia, PTSD-associated nightmares, and the Raynaud phenomenon. It is a quinazoline derivative that acts as a competitive alpha1-antagonist.

Mechanism of action

It selectively blocks postsynaptic alpha 1 adrenergic receptors leading to vasodilatation. The haemodynamic effects are decreased arterial pressure, reduction in venous and arterial tone.
