Potassium Citrate + Citric Acid

Urinary analgesic

Description

Citric acid and potassium citrate is a combination medicine in the form of a liquid oral solution that you take by mouth. This solution makes your pee less acidic to prevent kidney stones. It can also treat metabolic acidosis, which is a condition where acid builds up in your body.

Mechanism of action

Potassium citrate is metabolised to potassium bicarbonate and acts as a systemic alkaliser. Citrate forms ionic complexes of calcium and reduces ionic calcium concentration. It prevents the formation of urinary stones composed of uric acid and cystine.
