Phentolamine Mesylate

Anti hypertensives

Description

Phentolamine is an alpha-adrenergic blocker used to treat hypertensive episodes, diagnose pheochromocytoma, treat norepinephrine administration site reactions, and reverse soft tissue anesthesia and mydriasis. Phentolamine is a reversible, non-selective alpha-adrenergic blocker that induces vasodilation.

Mechanism of action

Hypothetical mechanism of action of phentolamine mesylate: epinephrine (E) binds to the α-adrenergic receptor, resulting in vasocontraction. Phentolamine mesylate (PM) competitively binds to the α-adrenergic receptor, causing vasodilatation.
