Ormeloxifene

Drugs acting on the uterus

Description

Ormeloxifene is a non-steroidal Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) that is used as an oral contraceptive. Recent studies have shown its potent anti-cancer activities in breast, head and neck, and chronic myeloid leukemia cells.

Mechanism of action

It acts on cytosolic estrogen receptors It has a potent antagonistic action on breast tissue as well as the uterus. It is expected to exert a contraceptive affect and normalize the bleeding from uterine cavity by regularizing the expression of estrogen receptors on the endometrial .Ormeloxifene prevents the proliferation of endometrial and does not affect the cornification of vaginal and cervical epithelium. Both these process are estrogen dependent.
