Mechanism of action
Nystatin is an antifungal medicine and not an antibiotic. It makes holes in the cell membrane of the fungus and the contents leak out. This kills the fungus and treats the infection.
Nystatin is a polyene macrolide antibiotic that acts by binding to sterols in the plasma membranes of fungi causing the cells to leak, eventually leading to fungal cell death.
