Mechanism of action
It enters the brain and it acts by blocking the entry of extra cellular calcium in smooth muscle cells and neurons.
Nimodipine (C21H26N2O7) is a second-generation 1,4-dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It was initially invented for the management of systemic hypertension. However, its use is restricted mainly to managing vasospasm following subarachnoid hemorrhage.
