Mechanism of action
It is a weak inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis. It appears to act at different stages of the inflammatory reaction and the mechanism by which it exerts its action is complex. It leads to inhibition of super oxide anion generation in vitro by activated neutrophils, inhibition of histamine release from tissue mast cells and basophils, it causes inhibition of platelet activating factor synthesis in stimulated human neutrophils and inhibition of synthesis of metaloproteinase thus preventing breakdown of osteoarthritic human cartilage.
