Miconazole is a broad-spectrum azole antifungal with some activity against Gram-positive bacteria as well. It is an imidazole antifungal agent which interferes with ergosterol synthesis & therefore alters the permeability of cell membranes of susceptible fungi. When applied topically miconazole penetrates the epidermis but there is little or no systemic absorption.
