Description

Miconazole is a broad-spectrum azole antifungal with some activity against Gram-positive bacteria as well. It is widely used to treat mucosal yeast infections, including both oral and vaginal infections; A wide variety of suppositories, creams, gels, and tablet-based products are available.It is used to treat certain kinds of fungal or yeast infections of the skin.

Mechanism of action

It is an imidazole antifungal agent which interferes with ergosterol synthesis & therefore alters the permeability of cell membranes of susceptible fungi. When applied topically miconazole penetrates the epidermis but there is little or no systemic absorption.
