Anti depressants

Description

Mianserin is a quadricyclic compound with complex pharmacological actions. It has weak noradrenaline reuptake inhibiting effects, and is a fairly potent antagonist at a number of neurotransmitter receptors, including serotonin2, serotonin3, and noradrenergic α1- and α2-adrenoceptors.

Mechanism of action

Exerts potent presynaptic central a2 adrenergic blocking activity which may cause increased noradrenaline release. It does not affect Na or 5HT uptake in CNS.
