Mefenamic Acid

NSAIDs

Description

Mefenamic acid is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to treat mild to moderate pain. It may also be used to treat menstrual cramps and other conditions .

Mechanism of action

NSAIDs exert their action by inhibiting the biosynthesis and release of prostaglandins. These drugs inhibit cycloxygenase enzyme and hence prostaglandin synthesis. These compounds generally do not inhibit formation of leukotrienes which also contribute to inflammation.
