Inj Darbepoetin

It is a erythropetin stimulating glycoprotein

Description

Darbepoetin alfa is an erythropoesis stimulating protein and has the same action as erythropeitin. It is made of 165 aminoacids and has 2 additional N-linked glycosylation sites than erythropeitin resulting in longer half life. Available as 25,40,and 60mcgdose strengths.

Mechanism of action

Darbepoetin works by the same mechanism as endogenous hormone. Human erythropeitin is an endogenous glycoprotein hormone, that is the primary regulator of erythropoiesis through specific interaction with the erythropeitin receptor on the erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow. The production of erythropeitin primarily occurs in and is regulated by the kidney in response to changes in tissue oxygenation.
