Description

Fentanyl citrate is a potent opioid agonist. A dose of 100 mcg (0.1 mg) (2.0 mL) is approximately equivalent in analgesic activity to 10 mg of morphine or 75 mg of meperidine. The principal actions of therapeutic value are analgesia and sedation

Mechanism of action

It interacts predominantly with opioid µ-receptor. These µ binding sites are discretely distributed in the human brain, spinal cord and other tissues. It exerts its pharmacologic effect on CNS. Primary actions of therapeutic value are analgesia and sedation.
