Mechanism of action
DNA intercalator; it generates free radicals.
A type of chemotherapy drug called an anthracycline. Doxorubicin is a widely used treatment agent for breast, ovarian, bladder, and lung cancer. This drug intercalates with DNA and blocks the activity of topoisomerase II, preventing the DNA double helix from resealing, and thereby halting replication.
