Dipyridamole

Anti platelets

Description

Dipyridamole is used to lessen the chance of stroke or other serious medical problems that may occur when a blood vessel is blocked by blood clots. It is given only when there is a larger-than-usual chance that these problems may occur.

Mechanism of action

It reversibly inhibits platelet phosphodiesterase and adenosine deaminase thus increasing the levels of adenosine, adenine nucleotides and CAMP reduction of platelet reactivity occurs, causing vasodilation. Additionally stimulates the release of Prostcyclin or PGD2 and causes Coronary vasodilation.
