Mechanism of action
Diosmin acts on venous tone, indirectly, by inhibiting the breakdown of norepinephrine (noradrenaline) by COMT (catechol-O-methyltransferase). Noradrenergic activity is thereby prolonged and venous tone increased. The degree of this effect varies in linear relation to the dose administered. It also works by blocking the action of chemical messengers (prostaglandins, thromboxane A2) that cause inflammation (swelling) of the veins. This improves blood flow in the veins and restores normal function in the veins.
