Mechanism of action
Endocrine System: After binding to the receptor,
the steroid receptor complex binds to chromatin and stimulates the formation
of mRNA. The mRNA stimulates the synthesis of enzymes. The antiinflammatory
action is due to inhibition of prostaglandin and leucotriene synthesis. The
actions of glucocorticoids are:
increased gluconeogenesis.
increased lipolysis
increased liver stores of glycogen
CNS effects, euphoria
increased haemoglobin synthesis
restrict capillary permeability and
maintenance of cardiovascular function
cause normal skeletal muscular function
antiinflammatory action
suppression of immune response
stabilize lysosomal membranes
antiallergic action.
