Mechanism of action
It belongs to the group known as (SSRAs) selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors.
Citalopram hydrobromide is a highly selective and potent serotonin reuptake inhibitor with minimal effects on the neuronal reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine. Its antidepressant action is thought to be due to its ability to potentiate serotonergic activity in the central nervous system via inhibition of the neuronal reuptake of serotonin.
