Mechanism of action
Ceftazidime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis and are bactericidal. Also the autolytic enzymes in cell wall may be activated leading to bacterial death. Ceftazidime after administration is widely distributed throughout body fluids. Ceftazidime is primarily excreted by the kidneys and dosage should be altered in patients of renal disease. It is important to note that patients who have shown immediate type hypersensitivity reaction to Penicillin should receive ceftazidime with great caution.
