Mechanism of action
Cefoperazone acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis and is bactericidal. Also the autolytic enzymes in cell wall may be activated leading to bacterial death. Cefoperazone after administration is widely distributed throughout body fluids. Cefoperazone is primarily excreted by the kidneys and dosage should be altered in patients of renal disease. It is important to note that patients who have shown immediate type hypersensitivity reaction to penicillin should receive cephalosporin with great caution.
