Description

It is a synthetic glucocorticoid with metabolic immunosuppressive and anti inflammaory activitiies.

Mechanism of action

Inhibition of prostaglandin and leucotriene synthesis. The actions of Betamethasone are:

  • increased gluconeogenesis.
  • increased lipolysis
  • increased liver stores of glycogen
  • CNS effects, euphoria
  • increased haemoglobin synthesis
  • Restrict capillary permeability and maintenance of cardiovascular function
  • cause normal skeletal muscular function
  • antiinflammatory action
  • suppression of immune response
  • stabilize lysosomal membranes
  • antiallergic action.
