HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins)
Competitively inhibits involved in cholesterol
synthesis. The greater efficacy of atorvastatin appears to reflect the
longer residence time of the drug in the liver or its active metabolites
which results in more prolonged inhibition of HMGCoA reductase than that
occurs with other statins.
