  • Thorough history
    • School and friends. The occurrence of headache increases at school start.
    • Hobbies
    • Eating and sleeping habits
    • The child's usual reactions to stressful situations
    • Family history of headache
    • Other diseases and their medications
  • Careful somatic and neurological examination
    • Blood pressure determination
    • Examination of vision and fundoscopy
    • Assessment of growth using the growth chart
    • Growth chart of the head circumference in small children
  • Examination of the maxillary sinuses (ultrasonography or radiographs) particularly if thechild has allergic symptoms affecting the airways or a tendency for recurrent infections.
  • In children with symptoms of any infection, ask for Serum CRP and ESR.
