Oxyfedrine

Anti anginals

Description

Oxyfedrine is a vasodilator and a β adrenoreceptor agonist. It was found to depress the tonicity of coronary vessels, improve myocardial metabolism (so that heart can sustain hypoxia better) and also exert a positive chronotropic and inotropic effects, thereby not precipitating angina pectoris.

Mechanism of action

It is postulated that it improves metabolism of myocardium in a way so that hypoxia may be tolerated better. The vascular resistance is reduced and it has adrenergic action on myocardium improving contractility.
