Naproxen

NSAIDs

Description

Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to relieve symptoms of arthritis (eg, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or juvenile arthritis) such as inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain.

Mechanism of action

Naproxen exerts their action by inhibiting the biosynthesis and release of prostaglandins. These drugs inhibit cyclo oxygenase enzyme and hence prostaglandin synthesis. These compounds generally do not inhibit formation of leukotrienes which also contribute to inflammation.
