Alprazolam binds to stereospecific benzodiazepine receptors on the postsynaptic GABA neuron at several sites w/in the CNS, including the limbic system, reticular formation. Alprazolam when administered causes sedation,hypnosis, muscle relaxation, relieve anxiety. Pharmacological effects mainly by potentiation of neural inhibition in CNS.
